EazyScripts report

Introduction

1/4

During a summer internship, I evaluated a "New Rx" workflow used by clinicians to manage prescriptions. I delivered a set of prioritized design recommendations to reduce cognitive load and improve patient safety within a busy EHR environment.

Problem

2/4

  • A cluttered e-prescribing interface lowered adoption rates and increased the risk of clinician error in high-stakes environments.

  • Development capacity was limited, requiring a strategy that improved usability through small, incremental changes rather than a total overhaul.

Solution

3/4

  • Conducted a heuristic evaluation using Nielsen Norman’s framework to identify friction points that slowed physicians down and increased chance of errors.
10 Heuristics

Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics

  • Optimized info architecture and accessibility to reduce clutter, match the clinician’s mental model, and help them manage prescriptions efficiently.
Mockup

Mockup based on usability evaluation findings

  • Delivered a prioritized report of findings, helping the business identify which small UX changes would have the highest immediate impact on patient safety and clinician satisfaction.

Lessons

Learned

4/4

  • In healthcare, UX is a safety requirement that can reduce clinician stress and help prevent cognitive fatigue that leads to medical errors.

  • Targeted usability research is a vital business asset and risk-mitigation tool, not just a dense, academic activity.

  • For a busy dev team, a list of small, attainable wins is far more valuable than an idealistic redesign vision.

I designed this project overview to be short and sweet. 🍰
